Dad Won’t Face Life Sentence for Son’s Tattoo

What do you do with a dad who gives his 7-year-old son a gang tattoo? Prosecutors thought he should face a life sentence, but now a judge has disagreed and given him a more lenient fate. Was this the right choice?
The father, Enrique Gonzalez, gave his seven year old a gang tattoo, and the District Attorney wanted him to face a charge of “aggravated mayhem” which carries a very heavy sentence, but the judge felt this was too much and asked for it to be reduced. The men will now be looking at up to seven years for “cruel and inhumane treatment of a child.”
Prosecutors still believe life in prison is what the dad deserves, but defense attorneys say the DA is just trying to boost his own ego and reputation by trying to make an example out of the defendant.
